Lend your voice to African-language AI
Afriklang is building a vetted network of native speakers and annotators who power the speech datasets behind African-language AI. Apply to join, meet the team in a short interview, and get called on for paid missions in your language.
Takes about 3 minutes.
A small, vetted pool built deliberately
By application, not open sign-up
We grow the network one person at a time. Every applicant is reviewed by hand no anonymous crowd, no race to the bottom.
Vetted by interview
If your profile fits, we meet you in a short interview before you join. That's how we keep quality high and the standard clear.
Paid, mission-based work
Contributors are paid per completed mission. Rates and payment details are shared at your interview before you commit to anything.
A founding cohort
Early contributors help shape how we collect each language. Join now and you're building this with us, not joining a finished machine.
From application to paid missions
Four steps, all remote. We review every application by hand, so you always know where you stand.
- 1
Apply
Tell us about yourself and your languages. The form takes about 3 minutes, and you pick your interview time as you apply.
- 2
Interview
A friendly 30-minute video call on Google Meet. We get to know you, hear your language and walk through how contributing works.
- 3
Vetting
We review your application and interview by hand. Either way, you hear back from us no silent rejections.
- 4
Paid missions
Once approved, we email you when a mission opens in your language. You choose what to take on, and every completed mission is paid.
Speak or annotate or both
Whether you want to lend your voice or sharpen the data behind the scenes, there's a place for you in the pool.
Speakers
Record natural speech in your language through guided, image-prompted sessions. No scripts to memorize just your everyday voice.
Annotators
Transcribe and label audio to our quality standard. Detail-oriented native speakers who can hear the nuance we're after.
Where we need voices now
These are the African languages we're actively building cohorts around. Each one is an open invitation the earlier you join, the more you shape it.

Everything you'd want to ask first
Do I get paid?
Yes missions are paid. You're paid per completed mission; rates and payment details are shared at your interview, before you commit to anything.
What equipment do I need?
For most speaking missions, a smartphone that records clear audio is enough. Annotation missions need a computer and a reliable internet connection. We confirm exactly what's needed at your interview.
Is this remote?
Yes. The application, the interview and the missions all happen remotely.
What is the interview like?
A friendly 30-minute video call on Google Meet: we get to know you, hear your language and walk through how contributing works. There's nothing to prepare.
My language isn't on the list can I still apply?
Yes. Add it in the "Other languages" field of the form. We're always expanding the map, and new language cohorts open regularly.
What happens after I'm approved?
You join the pool for your languages, and we email you whenever a mission opens in one of them. You choose which missions to take there's no obligation.
Ready to put your language on the map?
Apply in a few minutes. We review every application by hand and reach out to the people who fit.
Takes about 3 minutes.
